An appeal was launched to raise the costs of creating a new banner to mark Boldon Colliery Pit at this years 125th Durham Miners Gala. on Saturday, July 11th 2009.
Jarrow MP Stephen Hepburn has kindly agreed to be patron of Boldon Colliery Miners and Community Banner Group. The Jarrow constituency contains the town from which it takes its name, Jarrow, as well as Hebburn, Boldon Colliery, Cleadon and East Boldon, Whitburn, part of Marsden and Wrekendyke.
Local schools are involved in designing the rear side of the banner through a competition.
The fund has been boosted by a cheque for £500, donated by former local businessman Jack Oliver in memory of his uncle, Jack Oliver, who lost his life in the Boldon Colliery mine in an accident in 1925. The Durham Miners Association has also donated a further £500.

The first meeting to discuss the formation of the group was held on Monday 11th August 2008 at 7.30 in the Roberts Room at the Boldon Community Association.
